Pencils are tools of art and writing, they extend from the natural world. ‘Pure’ conveys a dense flower head, where each seed is symbolised by a pencil. In this way, the tools we use to document nature become the medium for revealing the rules that shape life, bridging our understanding of nature’s design. I work in the space between rule and result. Nature provides the device; I create conditions, revealing precision through blind repetition. In a world obsessed with control and monitoring, there’s something necessary about this – order finding its own way without control.
